France vs Italy: Zidane's First Home Test Brings Nations League Rivalry to Paris
France vs Italy meet in a major UEFA Nations League Group A1 fixture at Stade de France.
France vs Italy brings two of European football's most recognizable national teams together in a major UEFA Nations League Group A1 fixture at the Stade de France. The meeting also represents an important moment for France manager Zinedine Zidane, who is taking charge of his first home match since becoming national team coach.
France entered the fixture with a perfect start to the Nations League campaign. The French side defeated Türkiye 1-0 before securing another 1-0 victory against Belgium. Those results gave France six points from its opening two matches and kept the team at the top of Group A1.
France Enter the Match With Confidence
Zidane's team has shown a strong defensive record during the opening games. France have yet to concede in the Nations League, while Michael Olise scored the late winner against Belgium to maintain the team's perfect start.
However, France faced an important attacking change because Kylian Mbappé was unavailable after suffering a knee injury during the victory over Türkiye. Ousmane Dembélé and Michael Olise were among the players receiving increased attention.
Italy Arrive After a Strong Response
Italy started the Nations League with a 2-0 defeat against Belgium but responded strongly against Türkiye. Roberto Mancini's side produced a 4-1 victory, with Alessandro Bastoni, Davide Frattesi, Michael Kayode and Pio Esposito finding the net.
The result gave Italy renewed momentum before the trip to Paris. With both teams looking for valuable Group A1 points, France vs Italy became one of the headline fixtures of the matchday.
The clash also carries a long history between two major European football nations, adding another layer of interest to Zidane's first home game as France coach.
